Medical doctor, with decades-long professional and academic (teaching and research) experience in the field of Global Health, Development Cooperation, Management of International institutions and NGOs. He teaches a variety of courses at the Bocconi University, the SDA-Bocconi School of management, and the Milano-Bicocca University in Milano, at the University of Pavia, and at the Geneva School of Diplomacy. He started his professional career as a medical volunteer in Nicaragua, he later became a Unicef officer in México, spent more than 15 years as a senior health adviser to the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with geographical responsibilities extending to Latin America and Subsaharian Africa, and representation and negotiation tasks at global level. A former Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, his experience and field of action also extends to youth issues, non-formal education, social responsibility and organizational ethics.

Shiva is a medical doctor Public Health Physician, Medical Epidemiologist and Infectious Disease specialist.
After graduating from the University of Khartoum, Sudan, with a doctorate of medicine, he was graduated in Community Health and Clinical tropical Medicine at the University of London, UK.
Working from 1997 to 2016 with the World Health Organization (WHO) in different positions, he acquired a vast experience in Global Health. First in the Regional Office for Africa, in Brazzaville as a Coordinator of the Inter-country multidisciplinary malaria team for scaling up malaria control in 10 countries of Southern Africa. Later as a Medical Officer of the Strategy, Economics and Elimination Unit, Global Malaria Department, HIV, TB and Malaria (HTM) Cluster, in the WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Finally, as a Senior Adviser, in Global Malaria Program.
Before entering WHO, Shiva worked as a Medical Officer at various levels of responsibility in the Zimbabwean Health system, from the Provincial to the National level where he was the Chief Epidemiologist/Director Epidemiology and Disease Control, at the Ministry of Health, in Harare.
